By this time last year we had only had 2 homicides in Cleveland. We had a very quiet start last year though compared to average. Were at the January 17th now and have already had 9 so were doing a good amount worse. Things can change though.
So, what are you setting as the number for over/under for the year?

Its hard to say as of right now. Its kind of difficult to predict anyways because it can vary so much, and these arent just numbers, theyre peoples lives that are being lost.

Although I have to admit that I have made close predictions in the past. I believe early last year I predicted the 2008 number was going to be around 105-110 and it ended up being 102, so not that far off.

My best guess as of right now would be 120 for 2009. If the city stayed at the current homicide rate so far this year, we would end the year with 193 homicides though, wow.

i think its going to be a bad year because of the economy... my dealership is down 20-30% from previous years, so people are definitely hurting .... my guess 140-150

So it looks like the average over/under is about 130.

Not to make light of this serious problem at all, but if you go back and objectively look at how this thread discussion is evolving...

To get back to the question on places to live if you work at the Cleveland Clinic or UH, I would recommend the eastern suburbs. My husband was at the Clinic and I was working at Case and we lived in Shaker Heights, we loved it!. If we were to stay permanently in the area we would have probably stayed in Beachwood or even in Pepper Pike, both are beautiful and safe, yet not a horrible commute! Good luck on your search and I hope you love the area as much as we did!

What is interesting to note is the present crime compared to the past. Historically, we as a nation were much more violent in the 70s and the late 80s. Cleveland was far more dangerous in the past, but current technology informs people better.

That's an interesting point, I wonder if things such as the internet cause changes in perception that don't match reality.

cleveland homicides are mainly drug, and respect related..brothers in cleveland are killing each other over respect....and they rob people over drugs and money...
