By this time last year (2-27-08) we only had 8 murders for the year. We were below average though at the start of last year.
Its hard to say or estimate now, but as of now were on pace for 132 murders this year. Or around the same amount as in 2007, which if you remember, was a pretty bad year with 135 homicides.
Actually it could even be more than that because were already at that rate, but were still in the cold months. We should expect a even higher rate for May-October and December. Either way it doesnt look like its going to be a good year for Cleveland as far as crime.

And with the economy the way it is, that will probably have an effect on the crime in Cleveland. I understand from having lived in Cleveland for most of my life that it had a bad economy, but I've heard its really hard to get a minimum wage job out there right now.

What freaks me out is the double shooting happened right outside Reserve Square, where my fiancee used to live. Everytime I walked by that nasty homeless park, I didn't like it one bit and warned her to never even look in there lol
Oh, Cleveland.

I was told that area is trash. Projects, etc, low lives live there. Appears certain areas (East cleveland in General) is trash. Rest is ok.

What area are you referring to?
The location where the two people were shot was at E12th st. and Chester Ave. Right near the middle of downtown. The nearest projects are about 1/2 mile SE of that (Cedar Estates, etc.). I wouldnt call it trash by any means but there is a good amount of homeless people who walk around/reside in that "park" area. Downtown is pretty safe for the most part.
If you want to know exactly the bad areas of Cleveland just search the Cleveland forum and there are several threads about it ( http://www.city-data.com/forum/cleve...rst-areas.html ). I will mention a few. Generally the worst areas in the city are between E55th st and E116th st. on the Eastside, also East Cleveland. Most of the Eastside is bad with the exception of University Circle, Little Italy, and directly around Cleveland clinic (2 blocks N or S is another story). I know I missed a few areas. The Eastside suburbs are mostly nice (excluding E Cleveland). Some of the inner ring suburbs have bad areas, Euclid, etc. Westside of the city of Cleveland is kind of sketchy. Generally Ohio City and W100s west is pretty nice with the exception of 130th/Bellaire-Puritas and that area. Old Brooklyn/S Brooklyn is nicer. The rest of the Westside is not that nice. The westside suburbs are all pretty good. Lorain is pretty rough in areas on all sides of town. Elyria is rough on the southside/SW and part of the westside.

"In fact, more and more people are laughing outright at mainstream prudery. When I talked about crime on the radio, talk-show hosts were exultant: "You didn't read about this in the Baltimore Sun did you? That's right, folks, this is where you get the real news."
This time around, it would be pleasant if AP or the LA Times wrote about The Color of Crime.
But we're not counting on it.
The internet and talk radio will get the word out—and big media will sink just a little further in the minds of people who are tired of being told they can't be trusted with the truth."

The area I am assuming you are talking about is E.12th. That's in Downtown. Downtown itself does NOT have any projects. There are some homeless, but the city has cracked down a lot on homeless people downtown. I woudn't say any area downtown is trash. And I also don't really consider downtown as the "east side".

Why do you have to bring in your racist bullcrap? Crime is directly correlated to socio-economic problems. It just so happens to be that blacks in particular live in impoverished areas of the United States.
I mean look at the worlds most dangerous countries. Russia certainly isn't filled with blacks. But it is FAR more dangerous then the US. The Color of Crime has no reasoning behind that.
Pretty much what I am getting at is this; you have no idea what you are talking about. The Color of Crime link you posted sounds like something kids in high school talk about after drinking 2 beers in their quaint suburbs.
