The theatre district thing may be semantics. Are they counting by the number of theatres or the number of SEATS, or overall attendance? I've seen where Detroit may have more seats but fewer theatres, some refer to a district vs a complex. Example: Lincoln Center is a complex, Playhouse Sq. in Cleveland is considered a complex; whereas Broadway may be considered a district as well as Detroil considered a district, not a complex. Number of productions I believe Cleveland owns clearly, and I did see something once that Cleveland's attendance was higher than Detroit's but now I can't find the link. I think depending how one crunches the numbers one can rank some of these areas in various ways.

As you can see, differences of opinion are not received well in Cleveland, as illustrated by many posters on many threads.
I'm sure you would rather read posts that paint Cleveland in pretty colors then learn about Cleveland's reality. Every city has pluses and minuses.
Go ahead focus on half the package. You'll get the other half when you get there.

I know Cleveland' reality. If you would have read some of my past posts you would have seen this. I have lived in Cleveland over half my life and have been there for extended periods in the last 2 years. I am not blind here running into walls.
I see things very different than you. What makes happiness for me is obviously quite different than you. A broke city is not a horrible city to
me.
You are very bitter in your posts. LewLew was saying how she is coming back home from Florida to raise her children and be with her family who I believe has a business in the area. And you lambasted her for her decision. I don't know if you are living in Cleveland now, but if you are, I would think this would be the kind of family that would be wanted and welcome in the area. Instead you maliciously disuaded her.
I love the people there. I love the loyalty of the people there. I love the verdant countryside. I love that people there are really trying. I love the lake. I love horseback riding in the Metro Parks. I love my heritage there. I miss the seasons. I love the food there. I love knowing my neighbors for years and years. I miss my family and friends.
Not sure why you are so angry. But, doesn't effect me. I am happy today and I am happy with the decisions I am making for my life. I really wish you the same.

Please spare me the BS, I'm not buying it . Another loyal Cleveland lover that has spent 30+ years elsewhere.
Why don't you read this article about a Cleveland neighborhood where I was born and raised and tell me why I should be happy.

It is easy for people like you to diminish and judge other's experiences, isn't it? If they don't fit your paradigm, they must obviously be wrong, right?

Yes, another loyal Clevelander who lives in South Cal. and has been gone for 30+ years now, (although I'm happy that the OP is going to be where they will be happy (back to Cleveland)).
I think that people should live wherever they want to, or like it, or whatever their reasoning is. One thing that I take offense to is the fact that people who want to leave (even for a few years) and experience something different get attacked for being stupid, foolish, short-sighted, etc., by those who have not only left but don't even live here anymore. That's the real rub.

This goes both ways. I don't know how many times I've read on this site that the only people who live in the rust belt are those who are too lazy, poor, or stupid to leave.

It is possible to like Cleveland, yet not be able to live there.
In my specific case, I had the chance to transfer to Cleveland from Columbus back in 2006, and would have liked to have done so. Spending the rest of my life in greater Cleveland would have been fine with me.
However, I also have an adult handicapped child to take care of. The Ohio program for significantly mentally handicapped adults is very limited, to be pretty charitable, so we chose to seek out where good programs were in place. We found an outstanding program in Sacramento, CA, so we relocated and I'll end up spending the rest of my years out here.
I still think Cleveland is great though, and wish we would have had the opportunity to have made the final move to Cleveland. Sometimes, circumstances just don't allow that to happen.

You have totally missed what I am saying here. I am certainly not judging you. I don't know you or your circumstances. But, what I am gettig from you is that you are in some dire straights. I would not enjoy living in any rough part of a city and all citiies have them. If this is your situation, I am wondering if you are scared and not safe where you are? Wondering if you are financially stuck in a bad place. No matter what city you are in this would not be good.
Do you need help?

first of all, I have been back and forth for 30 years....10 year there 5 years here, 6 back there...back and forth.
Secondly, you must feel stupid, foolish and short sighted. Because I in no way even came close to implying this? These areyour own projections of yourself!

I don't think so, Kasey77, but nice try. Good night.
