Cleveland is best in the Summer. Wade Oval, boating, sports, metroparks, downtown, etc. Can't beat it in the summer months. But the other 7 months of the year this can be a very depressing place to be. It took a long while for me to build a business where I can live anywhere in the world, but that was my goal.
I'll also be back for a week every winter. The kids love snow......but after a week they can't take the cabin fever.

I hope you can afford private school for your children....look at the ranking of SC schools for the US.....it's #50.
It's not all sunshine and wonderful here either all the time.

Kids in the south get cabin fever too. When it's 110% humidity, and 96 degrees outside. Also, the red ants and the mosquitos are in full bloom, and you can't wipe them off your sweaty skin. Your kids will be clammering to find a pool or a/c room to hang in. It's called Southern Cabin Fever, and it's real.
I'd rather bundle up to keep warm part of the year, then be beastly hot even nude.
Truthfully, we live in FL, not SC...but it's similar. The fall and winter are much better in SC than FL. However, we are moving back north. I love the snow, as does my family...its the gray days that will be tough.

Lived in snowbelt for too long and picked Charlotte, NC to live, life is great. Great climate (sun days significantly more here), good schools, 3 hrs from beach 2 hrs from mountains, clean and many friends, tennis and golf almost year round, kids ride bikes, wear shorts every day. No more cabin fever. Reasonable cost of living, strongly recommend those that are looking to make a move.

NC is nice. It's what the people in the south call the place for all the half backs. People who couldn't hack the snow or the heat. Enjoy.

I've heard the term halfbacks and you are right, around here it's the people that moved from the North (i.e. OH) to FLA and didn't like it and ended moving half way back to NC.

The same thing can be said for Oregon. We have an unemployment rate of 10.8% second only to Michigan. Even in Cleveland the grass looks greener than here.

Give SC a break, it's #49, not #50 - that belongs to Mississippi! Ha...seriously though, from what my wife has seen in her 2 years of teaching here in Columbia, a lot of SC's poor rankings are self-inflicted, as they test kids every single year, and they are year after year making the test harder and harder, yet the kids were struggling w/the test as it was w/out making it tougher. It's like you're starting out running training for a 5k, then when race day comes, you learn you're running a 10k, you're not going to do so well. Plus, SC's rankings are pulled down by a lot of the rural areas that don't have any resources or money, and less than half the kids graduate. There are some good school districts in the state, you just have to do your research as we did in finding one for my wife to teach at.

Moved from Jersey to Cleveland. Like Cleveland a whole lot more. Only negatives I can see are: Its colder, no beaches,.and pizza here is horrible. Everything else is better. Mainly cost of living..less traffic..and much much friendlier people.
Renting now in Middleburg Hts. Looking to move and become owners now. Looking in North Ridgeville. Hopefully its just as nice as Middleburg.

Nice thing to is the real estate market is much lower risk here than most places. Anything in particular attract you to Lorain County over Medina County?
