I grew up on the East side of Cleve, and have lived in FL for 7 years. (3 different cities in FL for that matter)...Grass is NOT greener. Let me be the first to tell you that FL is great for a vacation. Once you live here, you are not at the beach every day, you are not tan, you are not boating/fishing/relaxing etc. It's extremely hot...burn your b***, melt your a** on the seat hot all summer into October. There are bugs the size of a small bus, and the only water you can drink you have to pay to have delivered, or buy a water system. All the houses are very similar in structure and look. Most lots are the size of a postage stamp, apartment are expensive, and the job market is horrifying. Your neighbors will be retired (you said you were 32), it's not a place to raise children with strong value systems and resources that are offered in OH, it's transient, and no one is really from here. You get no sense of community, and besides the beach areas, FL is pretty ugly as it's full of low brush and highways. Now, this is all my opinion, but truth be told (I was also born down here in FL, but raised in OH), it's a far cry from what most people think it is due to vacationing down here. We are trying to move back as we speak.
Remember that vacationing somewhere is all fun and relaxation, but when you live there are bills need to be paid, resources need to be tapped into, errands run on the weekends, work during the week is indoors and not at the beach etc...the bloom wears off the rose. Please do me a favor and visit the FL forum boards before deciding. 90% of the posts are negative, and from people looking to get out, unemployed people, and people who soon realized that what they left to come to FL wasn't so bad.
I am all for exploring and moving and experiencing different parts of the country, but I have to tell you that Cleveland is a great city, and does have a lot to offer. Depression is usually an internal issue, and not topography.

I hate Mangini...

Really? I've heard some Jets fans say that they're disappointed that Mangini was let go. I think he'll do a good job for the Browns, but I wish they had waited a bit longer and gone after Gruden.

Gruden sucks. LOL (I now live in FL) He has done nothing with a superbowl team that was handed to him by Dungy. Dungy got them to the point of the bowl, and ever since they've done very little under Gruden. Gruden was merely handed the superbowl team. He's young and can improve, but Mangini studied under Belichick (our old coach from back in the day), and while they hate each other now....he's probably got more of what we need to save the Brownies. IMO anyway.

Well I do agree that Dungy did a lot of work and left Gruden with a great team. But since then, Gruden has had little work with and done very well. Wherever he goes next, he will have success. Plus he's from Sandusky and attended my alma mater (Dayton), so I have to pull for him!

He will do well wherever he goes...he's young, and yes, being from Ohio is definitely a feather for him.

A lot of great coaches have been from Ohio, whether we're talking college or pros:
-Paul Brown
-Chuck Noll
-Jon Gruden
-Urban Meyer
-Les Miles
-Woody Hayes
-Jim Tressel
-Bob Stoops
-Bo Schembechler
-Ara Parseghian
I'm sure there are more, I just can't think of them off of the top of my head.

Yes, depression IS an internal issue; it's called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
Seriously, all of you who have moved out, lived somewhere else, especially the ones that have lived away for 30+ years, I seriously don't know why you begrudge those who want to leave Ohio for better opportunities. Maybe the opportunities won't be so great, but why do you have to tell them how bad it is when you yourself have gone away and STAYED away for 30+ years??? I really, really do NOT understand that. It's like, "I had my chance, I took my chance, and now that I've had my turn, I'm coming back, but don't you ever leave, you're just fine where you're at - take it from me."
Can't people experience things for themselves and come to their own conclusions? God, I'm so sick of people having to defend this state like it's some sort of mecca. If it's so mecca-like, then you shouldn't have left in the first place.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying, and if you read the end of my email...I am all for exploring. My point was not to go with visions that OH is horrible, and other places are fantastic. I was trying to say that FL has it's downfalls just like OH, and anyone can make their own assumptions after that. The original post was regarding who was staying or going and why. Thus, you are going to get both sides of the coin.
I don't begrudge anyone for wanting to move. Just stating that OH is not a bad place. I stated I've moved to many places, and it helped me appreciate where I came from. That was the point...no need to defend anyone. I don't think anyone should stay where they are miserable. Just hoping to express that everywhere has it's flaws, and not to be to oversold against where you are, or where you are going.

I don't think anyone is telling anyone to do anything. Those who were gone and have come back are just sharing their experience. This might help someone save the trouble of finding out for themselves.

Thank you for your clarification. I agree with what you are saying, completely. Ohio is definitely not the worst place or even a bad place - I just want a complete change, and away from this place. I don't dislike all of Ohio or everything in Ohio. I don't like the weather, the climate. There's a few other things that I don't like, but it's certainly not that I dislike everything in Ohio. All I can say is that I'm at the point where change is inevitable and it's actually welcome. It's time for another chapter.
Seriously, as it pertains to the weather, it's "what do you expect, it's Ohio" - this is what you hear from people. Or, "if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes". Of course, it's Ohio, and then I think to myself, "why stay somewhere where it's really not to your liking" - I mean we all get once chance this go-around at life. I do believe that everywhere has it's flaws. Thank you again for your reply.
