Good to hear from a fellow Oregonian. I'm currently living in the Hollywood district in NE Portland.
I'm looking for a residential area, no freeway noise or majar road traffic and I don't really want to live in a busy town, rural sounds good to me with a small town feel - I'll drive in and walk around then drive back home sweet home. Have you been in Hillsboro for long? I lived there in the early 80s. It was surrounded by strawberry fields and small mom and pop farms and of course Hag Lake. I'm a water baby, for sure! I really loved it. Yes, I have to have access to the Cleveland airport, but don't mind a 20 mile trip. I fly four to six times a month for work.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out right now.

If you want to be close to the airport, all the east side suburbs are out. Stay away from garfield hts. Strongsville, Rocky River, Westlake and Bay Village are all good.

Actually places like Shaker Heights, Beachwood, Solon, and Pepper Pike are all ~20 miles from the airport, like the OP requested above.

I think it's funny that some west siders think the airport is soooo sooo far away from the east side. Give me a break! I live about 60 or 70 miles SE of Cleveland and it only takes me an hour to get to the airport, a little longer if there is a lot of traffic. You guys wouldn't believe the number of people who commute from Trumbull County to the Cleveland metro everyday..........trust me, people that live in the east side suburbs don't have a long commute at all!

I lived in Northeast twice - once in the mid 70's when it was on its way down, and again in early 00's when it was on its way back up.
We've been here at Orenco Station for the past six years and love it. Much different than the 80's - Hillsboro is now more populated than Beaverton (about 90,000 and growing fairly fast).
Good luck in your search. Since you are traveling from work, access to Akron-Canton probably isn't that important to you. My in-laws live in Hinckley and I love having the option to fly into Akron which is sometimes cheaper.

You should check out Chagrin Falls, Bainbridge, Russell, South Russell, Chesterland. Mentor Headlands is a great beach (for a lake beach) and is an easy commute from these areas. Chagrin Falls will have no highway noise, and is walkable and quaint. It has that small town feel you are seeking. On the west side, Bay Village and Rocky River might be what you are looking for, although I think road noise is more of a problem over there. Check out Chagrin Falls at www.chagrin-falls.org

I'm not familiar, but that area is by Akron and closer to the Akron airport.
I hear there are nice areas there. HOwever, I've never lived near Akron/Canton, only flown out of there b/c it can be cheaper.
