As far as what?

Maybe Ohio as a whole, but were talking about Cleveland here.

I am curious if some of you have ever lived anywhere but Cleveland. Cleveland has rough spots for sure, but it's not the worst place out there. I personally have to think the OP was being sarcastic b/c it's comical actually.
I have to laugh. I live in Estero near Naples, and you will see gangster tats on tons of people. There are burglaries nightly. Car break-ins in gated communities. We are the number 3 state for child porn offenders and kidnappings. We have the largest population of sex offenders in the US.
Personally, I'll take knowing where the bad parts of Cleveland are any day of the week, and making sure I stay out of them over walking on a sunlit day, being car-jacked at the mall, and being killed alongside my 6 month old daughter for my craphole Honda Civic. That is South FL my friends. Cleveland is cake.

I have been to many areas outside the Cleveland area, and Im not saying that the Cleveland area is near the worst. But Cleveland itself is one of the most dangerous cities in America, the metro is above average crime rate, and there are dangerous cities and suburbs outside of the main city.

According to the stats I see, Cleveland and the Cleveland area are much more dangerous then Naples/Estero wherever you are talking about. All of those things you mentioned are common in the Cleveland area. That doesnt make our suburban areas dangerous, but theyre not really any safer than the areas your talking about.

The largest town in New Jersey is Newark and their violent and property crime rates are lower than Cleveland. When taken as victims of crime per 1000 residents, the rate is actually 20% lower in Newark than in Cleveland. So, I think you are just wrong.

Cleveland crime rates and statistics - Neighborhood Scout

I agree with the last poster, but that "Neighborhood Scout" site is a joke as far as crime rates.

There are so many obvious flaws and errors just from the few cities/neighborhoods I checked on there. It may not be the fault of the site though, they are using crime statistics released that were flawed to begin with. It does have something to do with real estate also, so you have to consider they could have an agenda.

This is one of the more accurate ones:
CQ Press: City Crime Rankings 2008
http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/City...8_Rank_Rev.pdf
http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/Metr...8_Rank_Rev.pdf

As you can see, as a city Cleveland is more dangerous than any city in Florida. Cape Coral is actually one of the safest cities on there, its well below average crime rate. As far as metros, Cleveland is just slightly safer than the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, FL metro. Cleveland metro is also more dangerous then any of the NY/NJ metro areas (except Vineland metro). Im not saying the Cleveland metro is very dangerous, but its no safer than the areas you mentioned.

That is the true problem with stats. They take too long to publish, and the data can change quickly. Cape Coral is NOT one of the safest areas in the county. I live right around the corner, and my friends live in the Cape. It is becoming a ghost town. Squatters, drug houses, burglaries, arson, etc. The pockets of wealthy people on the water behind guarded gates probably keep the stats a little off. I also want to remind everyone that Cleveland metro area is MUCH larger than the metro areas of anywhere in FL (except maybe Miami) I am sure that Miami's crime rate is right up there.
To feel that a place is truly unsafe when you live there....you need to take into account the size. If there were 14 murders in a town of 300 ppl, that is much more unsafe than 40 murders in a town of 5000. For the populations of Ft Myers/Naples/Cape Coral, there is more crime per capita. Have to think out of the box. Miami has higher crime than Cleveland check this out Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed
Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed Oh, and here is Jacksonville (more murders than Cleveland) Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed Cleveland's total crime index is right in the middle. And one last point...Ft Myers (FOR ITS SIZE) is very high in crime. Check this out Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed
it is higher than the national average on all counts.
Please remember that it takes into account the size of the city. Cleveland Metro is a very large city, and I'm sorry, but I don't feel unsafe in most of Shaker, Beachwood, Orange, Chagrin Falls, Novelty, Moreland Hills, Gates mills, Mayfield Village, Pepper Pike, etc etc. If you pulled each of those cities, and compared them nationally to cities of the same size (which I did), they have crime that is under 1% the national average.

the crime in the city of cleveland vs. the entire metro is like night and day. our metro as a whole is safer than most, but the city itself is one of the most violent. the thing i like about the older cities is that you know what parts to avoid. and those stats above are 2002-2003, time to update.

If anything, the crime stats have gone up since then in all areas. Let's face it, the country isn't getting "safer".
