Talking Best apartments in Lakewood?!?!

I am a young professional who is moving to Cleveland. Everyone tells me that Lakewood is the place to live, however all I am finding is old run down looking apartments. Does anyone know of any apartments that are newer and nice? I am looking for a 1 bedroom with an elevator and fitness center. My number one concern is that it is in a safe area with a decent commute 20 minutes or so to downtown Cleveland. I am open to other areas as well. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Your best bet would be to check out the lakefront highrises on Lakewood's Gold Coast. Some buildings are rental, some are condo, but even the condo buildings usually have many units available for rent. The buildings typically have amenities like a pool, fitness center, etc., and some units in some buildings also have balconies. And unlike many of Lakewood's older buildings, ample off-street parking is usually available.

The Gold Coast highrises are mostly 1950s-1970s vintage. That's about as "new" as you're going to get in Lakewood.

From the Gold Coast, it's 10-15 minutes to downtown Cleveland by car; maybe 20 or so by bus.

Trust me when I say there are some very new looking apartments in the Gold Coast area. I have personally been to one furnished in marble with a wrap around bar, state of the art refrigerator, and Plasma TVs in each room - bedrooms included. Shop around until you find the right place, because it is out there.

The Rosewood Place development has one new construction condo available for lease but it'll run you over 1500 per month.

Also try www.highrises.com and search Cleveland condos for lease.

Smile Best Apartments in Lakewood

Winton Place, on the Gold Coast, BAR NONE the best. Free state of the art gym, large recently renovated indoor pool, fantastic restaurant attached (The Pier W; best happy hour in Cleveland and a beautiful atmosphere) beautifully decorated public areas, barber shop (he takes appointments!) and hair salon for women, beautiful new party room, nice laundry room, many apartments have wonderful views, bjuilding is clean and well run. I know this because I live in Winton Place. I love it. Very close to downtown and restaurants and other cultural things, very safe and easy to get around. Call Gold Coast Rentals (it may be listed under Gold Coast Realty) and they can show you units. There is one redone unit on a higher floor that is available right now; I've seen it and it's very nice. There are all kinds of different units available; some are for rent by owner (it's a condominium) so when you get in the building look at the bulletin board in the mail room for further listings that Gold Coast may not have. You have to get in through Gold Coast, though. We have very high security.
