Opinions for Medina County- Brunswick
Hi,
We are looking at areas to move to. Currently, we rent in Middleburg Hts (Cuyahuga Cty).
We narrowed our home down to:
4 Bedrooms
Furnished Basement
150K range
Now, we might be able to purchase home we are currently renting in. We do like it, however it was built in 1960, original furnace, right next to railroad tracks- very noisy with train. But, great area as rec center is nice, close to downtown, it is 4 bed, furnished basement, good condition overall.
What do you think of building new home with Ryan homes? We like the Venice model because it has 4 beds, and an upstairs laundry setup.

Here is location - asking between 150-170K
Medina County - Brunswick

Seems like nobody knows about Brunswick, or its not popular..Hmm..maybe cross that place of list.
How bout North Royalton? Same Ryan Holmes development is there, but more $$. Is it worth paying about 30K more for a home in North Royalton vs. Brunswick?

Hope this helps you.
I would choose Brunswick over North Royalton any day of the week. Why? Taxes. Property taxes in Medina County are much lower than in Cuyahoga. Plus, houses are, like you stated, less in Brunswick. Other than that, the two cities seem to be almost mirror images anyway you slice it.
Plus, even going to Cleveland, commute times might be less from Brunswick considering it's right off 71, where as North Royalton is land-locked between 71 and 77.

Hey there - sorry I just saw this today. I lived in Brunswick for 18 years of my life and my mom, dad and brother still live there - all in separate residences. Brunswick was a great place to grow up (my brother and I never really had any complaints - he is 26 now and I am 28). There are tons of new developments in the area. I know a few people that live in the Autumnwood development and they really like it. And, actually, my mom looked at Autumnwood a few years back but decided that it was slightly out of her price range at the time. I have been inside the models and also in one of the houses of the people I know who live in that developement. They are quite nice, are in a good, safe area and its less than 10 minutes from I-71.
As for the Medina location....Medina is alright but I wouldnt live there based on personal likes/dislikes. Altho safe, I think that Medina has become extremely congested over the past 5 years especially. But, that's just me. It all depends on your preferences.
As for Brunswick - let me know if you have any other questions - I can pretty much give you an open, honest answer on anything from the schools (I grew up attending Brunswick City Schools and can tell you anything about them) to the neighborhoods, to the city itself as a whole.
Glad to be of assistance!

O, and as for 'NoRo' (short for North Royalton) - it's pretty decent altho I couldnt give you a very detailed report of that area.
My aunt and uncle live there - I think they have for something like 25 years - and they still like it.
My brother (for a short time), as well some other friends have also lived in the area (mostly in apartment complexes) and they never really had any complaints about the area. They were around the Rt.82/W.130th section, down from I-71 and SouthPark Mall.

We checked out Brunswick again, but left a bit disappointed. We went inside the Rec Center, and it was in poor codition. No outside pool, Indoor pool was a basic square shape, overall it was bad..Nothing like the rec center in Middleburg Hts. Also, the drive to Autumnwood was pretty far. It took a good 15 minutes after exiting off of I-71.. We are still open to Brunswick, but maybe something closer to I-71
North Royalton - we looked at the RYan Development there (only 10 homes about so far). Unfortanelely, we left in disgust as well. Right across the fence was a bunch of town houses/apts that were in bad shape. Behind that development, looked like 2-faimly homes..also in bad shape. The surroundings looked pretty poor. So, we will skip on this.
So, we are scratching off new home building and looking at homes built in the 80's. 4 Bed/3 Bath around $175 price range. We would like to stay close to MiddleBurg Hts - maybe going away about 25 minutes or so..
Any suggestions welcomed and thanks for your support so far!

After reading up here, below 4 cities seem to fit our needs the most:
Olmsted falls/Twp
Berea
N.Ridgeville
Brook Park
We are going to take a ride out to N. Ridgeville as they have Ryan Homes building there. Also, checking out N. Olmsted. These 2 cities so far peak our interest.

I don't know a whole lot about the suburbs but since you seemed to be interested in a city with a nice recreation center and nice houses, maybe you should check out Westlake. I work in Westlake and it seems like everyone who lives there is satisfied with it. I don't know if that is too far north of what you are looking for but the southern part is right off of I-480 and the northern part has I-90. Like I said, they seem to have quite an impressive rec center. Here is the link. Westlake Recreation Center

Westlake is out of our price range. Very nice neighborhood, but cant afford it. Rec center looks great. Even though I would like a nice rec center, price ends up being the bottom line.
North Ridgeville appears to fit all our criteria so far. We are going to take a drive their this weekend to look at some homes around $150K - 4 Beds, furnished basement

You get what you pay for. A 4 bedroom Ryan home in Brunswick is going to deteriorate pretty rapidly as they use substandard materials and I sure would never consider Brunswich "close" to downtown.
I would think you could find a home in Westlake for a decent amount if you looked hard enough, especially in these hard economic and real estate times.
Beyond a rec center, are there other amenities you would be looking for (close to shopping, unique shopping and dining, short commute downtown, cultural institutions, etc?)

A Ryan home anywhere (not just Brunswick) is not going to last forever for those reasons lol!
Don't they all have poured concrete basements (instead of brick-block)? Not good.
