Aboddy15-DO NOT LIVE THERE!That area is even dangerous during the day.Rent an apartment in between, like in North Olmsted,Rocky River,or even Avon.Your drive won't be more than 30 minutes. My sister in law goes to CSU ,has 2 kids and lives in Avon, she leaves an hour before class, drops her kids off and still makes it in time for class. You can find a decent apartment in French Creek.Avon is awesome! And VERY safe.

We have great schools (in Painesville TOWNSHIP...Painesville City is a bit different and more troubled) that are safe and not TOTALLY broke, like some other schools in Ohio (like Mentor).

There are nice, quiet, friendly neighborhoods, where you can find houses like the one it sounds you're looking for. Looking in Mentor, I'd say the houses would be a little out of your price range, but you could certainly try. I do honestly prefer Painesville to Mentor, though, since Mentor is a bit more developed and becoming too populated for my taste.

Good luck!!
hmm, you sparked my interest. Are there many houses selling for around $150k or less?

In downtown Willoughby there is a nice restaurant called Olivor Twist. It has a good wine list and a martini bar. Right down the street is a local ice cream parlor. Across the street are two gourmet coffee houses with a few chairs on the sidewalk. I live in Toledo and can't wait to return to Willoughby.

Sorry, but you are gonna get different viewpoints as to either west side town or east side towns. You might also take into consideration like if you have a family (little ones) and things of that ilk. I'm an East Sider (Solon), and the schools are sweet (#2 behind Chagrin Falls according to State report cards) but those two swap. Both are really nice and safe. Although, crime travels on wheels so your gonna get the break ins where ever you go. My wife works at University hospitals and gets there in about 35mins, at least with metro you've got all freeway access but 480 is a real nightmare but I would trade Solon for nothing. If you have to, West Lake is nice. Whatever you do, 30 mins is pretty much the norm. Try books on tape. You wouldn't believe how much "reading" you can get done Good luck!

Beachwood, Rocky River, South Euclid, Seven Hills, Pepper Pike, Strongsville. Those are all pretty nice and safe suburbs.

All mentioned are within a 30 minute drive of Metro Health.
Westside suburbs are literally 10 min drive from Metro ie: Lakewood, Fairview, Rocky River. Also to mention is West Park or Kamms Corner area in Cleveland. All those areas are relatively safe with very affordable housing. People think Rocky River is expensive, but in all honesty $150k for a 2-3 bedroom house are all over in the area and about the median house home.
