There are many areas historically which were separate areas from the city and became part of Cleveland, like Ohio City, Brooklyn Center, West Park, and Collinwood. I would say those areas thrived long after they became part of the central city. Not until the automobile spread the region out and new cities were formed which Cleveland didn't annex did Cleveland start to suffer from the effects of sprawl. And regardless of whether each inidivdual suburb gains or loses from an annexation, I think the question should be what the net effect is on the region. We are all part of a local Cleveland region feeding off one Metropolitan Statistical Area. The idea we can each hide in our own enclave, yet still leech of the economy of the region seems outdated and detrimental to the region to me.

And apparently you stopped reading halfway through. I didn't expect your attention span for reading was any longer than for writing.

The example was irrelevant. So, you'll have to do better than that.

Considering the fact that Cleveland hasn't annexed land in over 70 years, there are no recent (or relevant in your book) examples, good or bad, to go off of. And then there's still the fact that you didn't read the second half of the post.

I said, "Well, there must certainly be plenty of examples where suburbs joined the City of Cleveland and "benefited." "
You provided an example that was so old, it seems irrelevant. As for the rest, it seems like whining.
And just for fun...

Self-Pity, The Whiners Drug Of Choice
They say, self-pity is caused by vanity and ingratitude. Hence, it is cured by humility and gratitude; not another Government Hand-Out.

Can you provide a "relevant" example where a suburb joined Cleveland and didn't benefit?

Jam40jeff, man you put up a good fight there. Chef "Boy are you dumb" has not one good retort yet you still keep fighting. Unfortunately you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Instead of saying what Cleveland suburbs have suceeded after being incorporated by a city, since there are no recent examples, what about other cities that have smart growth policies, or have incorporated their suburbs. Columbus, not the best example, Minneapolis/St. Paul. There are many great examples of struggling urban areas that have regionalized and now the whole areas are much better off.
