Default Case Western Law Student

A little on our situation:

My wife and I are going to be moving to Cleveland this summer so I can attend law school. My wife has a bachelors degree in English Literature and I have degrees in Philosophy and Spanish Literature. We currently own our home and have no mortgage, the home's value is around $160000. Here we pay about $900 a year for taxes. We get by on a very low income, less than $20000 a year.

I have a few questions:

Where could we buy a house for that price without paying enormous taxes?

If we did want to buy a house in Shaker/Cleveland Heights could my wife find a job in Cleveland to pay the ridiculous taxes?

Any other neighborhood suggestions? My wife is worried about moving from the safest city in the world (Logan, UT) to what has the reputation of being one of the most dangerous?

Will we need two cars or is public transportation from either heights safe to Case Western?

Help me ease our worries. Thanks ahead of time,

Brian

you may want to inquire about first-time home buyer deals/discounts in university circle, little italy or even downtown. you could easily use the red-line rapid transit or the new bus rapid health-line to go back and forth from case to a job downtown. then you can have just one car to drive the rest of the city,beaches,parks,etc.. you did mention shaker, and many of those nieghborhoods are on the green and blue rapid transit lines also. the public transportation in all the areas you mentioned are good...

^^Great response, I actually want to second that.

There are 15-year no taxes in the city of Cleveland if you able to buy into some of the new developments. Examples

Vintage Development Group, LLC - BATTERY PARK
27 Coltman
University Circle : Find Yourself in the Circle

Good luck!

Also, as long as she has a degree, it shouldn't be too hard for here to find a job around here. There are a lot of businesses here that have to import talent to find the qualified people. (Remember you're moving to a metro of about 2.2 million people, so there will be plenty of opportunities)

The real question is whether going to law school at all in this economy is a good idea at all.

I would strongly suggest taking a look at the following:
