Cleveland Heights...the good parts?
Hi I'm moving to Cleveland for school, Case Western. I want to live nearby, and I thought C. Heights would be good. So what are the nice 'parts', streets, etc. where I should be looking? Thanks

Are you looking to buy, or looking to rent?
If you're looking to rent, look in the areas near Euclid Heights Boulevard and Coventry north/west towards Littly Italy. That entire area is decent and a lot of your peers from CWRU will be living there. That area is filled with apartment buildings.

Just to clarify - Coventry SOUTH of Mayfield is the safer end, places north of Mayfield and along Superior are sketchier and in closer proximity to the urban ghetto of East Cleveland. Noble Rd and Nela Park areas (Quilliams, etc) are not so great either.
I lived on Overlook just uphill from Little Italy, and then on Lennox in the Cedar-Fairmount area - I liked being closer to Cedar just for the convenience of walking to Starbucks, a grocery, bar/restaurants. Coventry is nice but crowded on the weekends with all the bar/restaurant activity.

Cool. There are some nice restaurants, shops, and bars in that area, a supermarket, and it's an insanely short drive to the Clinic.

In case you're still looking for options, the landlord I rented from for three years was www.propertyinvestmentcompany.com from Mayfield Hts. and they were always fair and responsive. My building was the Wilson at 2091-2095 Lennox - only downside was having to park in the adjacent city lot which required buying a permit ($90 per quarter). Some other buildings on Lennox, Surrey, and Derbyshire have limited garage spaces.
Also when living in Cleveland Hts, be very aware of the overnight parking ban on city streets - they will nail you at two minutes after the hour (forget if it's 2 am or 3 am). I amassed several parking tickets for either that or an expired meter (at the time a few years ago a ticket was only $10 if paid within 72 hours).
Also, bicycles require a license/registration to ride in city streets - the $2 fee is waived if you come to city hall with your bike helmet.

I believe it's 3 a.m., but don't quote me on it. Anyways, that's one thing about CH that I think is bogus. For a city with so many rental properties, especially apartments, it should allow overnight parking on at least some of the streets in the apartment-saturated areas. Lakewood, a city similar in having numerous rental properties, doesn't have an overnight ban.

I absolutely agree. I love Cleveland Heights, but the overnight parking ban is a pile of crap.
