Newly Single and Empty Nester Relocating To Cleveland
I am currently looking for apartments in downtown Cleveland. I do not trust a lot of the apartment reviews I have read. I am looking for an area with an active social area in the immediate vicinity and/or an area with easy transit options into downtown. I am 49, newly single and empty nester. Advice and comments will be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you take a look at UrbanOhio's Relocation Thread, there are a lot of members who live in Downtown Cleveland and who know quite a bit about the area. With that said, maybe you could give us more info about the things you like to do/what type of atmosphere you are looking for (Warehouse District vs 4th St/Gateway).

As I'm moving to the downtown area, I would recommend the E. 4th Street apartments. E. 4th street along with the Warehouse District are the two more social areas downtown but for the "older" crowd, you'd be better suited around E. 4th street.
I can tell you from having spoken to leasing agents in the area that there are only 2 or 3 apartments left on E. 4th Street (not counting the Sincere building). I also checked out The Pointe at Gateway and they too only had 1 or 2 apartments available for move-in in the near future.
There is always the new development at 668 Euclid opening in August. That may be a viable option close to E. 4th as well.

Maybe buy?
I know this is not what exactly what you were asking about, but houses are also a pretty good deal in Cle nowadays. You might want to check out this condo: www.LegendsAtAberdeen.com
It is available for both rental and sale.

^The OP said "I am looking for an area with an active social area in the immediate vicinity and/or an area with easy transit options into downtown."
I would say Highland Heights is about as far from whatg he's looking for as anything in the Cleveland area.
