Default Hello Fellow Clevelanders

Hello there. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Paul was born and raised in Cleveland on the west side and live near the Puritas rabid stop.Huge Cleveland sports fan,Browns,Indians and Cavs (thought this was our year but hopefully with Shaq coming to town we'll have a parade downtown next year). Live in Cleveland most of my life except I lived in Philadelphia from Jan 2001 to April 2005 and here's that story.

Back at the end of 2000, I decided I wanted to try something different. I was going to be 34 that Jan and I discussed it with my longtime girlfriend(now my wife) and she agreed to go where ever I wanted. I looked into Boston, NY,Phila and DC and I happened to find a a hotel front office mgr's position in Philadelphia. I've been to Philadelphia before on visits and enjoyed it so I decided to give Phila a shot. I applied, was called for an interview and flew in and they hired me on the spot.Well her and I moved to Phila and she found an admin ass't job at the Univ Of Pennsylvania and we got a place in a section called Manayunk which was a hip place, plenty of restaurants and bars and it was very nice. Now Phila is a nice place but when you come from Cleveland, its very fast paced and talk about how the drivers drive so fast(even the natives talk fast and that took time getting used to)and the cost of living was kind of high and car insurance was really high. Anyway we made lots of friends there who we still keep in touch with and we would go up to NYC which is really fast paced, I enjoyed it but I admit Cleveland is my home and I missed it. After 2 years my girlfriend started to look and sound sad and I asked her was anything wrong and she told me nothing was wrong and she was ok but I knew something was up. A year later she finally broke down and told me how much she missed Cleveland, our families and friends there and that Phila is too big and too fast paced for her and wants to move back to good old Cleveland. I asked her why she didn't say anything sooner and she said she seen that I was enjoying it and didn't want to spoil it for me. I told that deep down that I missed Cleveland and everyone there also and we decided to move back.I had changed my DL to car registration to PA, but I wondered why she kept her DL and car in OH. We both gave a month's notice at our jobs and told all our Phila friends and they were very sad to see us go. So now we've back in Cleveland 4 years now and really glad we came back. Like I said, Philadelphia is a great town and everything but Cleveland is home. We've been back to visit Phila several times and our Phila friends been to Cleveland several times also. Its funny I always said to my Phila friends how fast paced Phila is and when they come here they tell me how much slower paced it is in Cleveland. In fact they're coming out in July and we'll be going to a Indian's game and then in August we're going to Phila to go to a Phillies game and speaking of the Phillies, after they won the World Series last October, I flew in to attend the parade and talk about a turnout. At least 3 million people were downtown that day. I admit I miss a few things about Phila, it has a later night life,SEPTA(the public transit system) runs later and of course I miss a good Phila cheesesteak.

Wow, thanks for sharing. (Sarcasm). So anyhow, maybe that's what makes the Midwest different from the East Coast.

Phila and the East Coast are nice to visit, but I'm glad to be back home in Cleveland. I tell you one thing, living there in the fast paced enviroment can get to you at times.

NO sarcasm here. Welcome back!

I too don't know what the city will be like if we ever get that championship parade down Euclid Ave. I have strong feeling people will be coming back from all over the country for the celebration!
