Not good news for Cleveland or Ohio in general for that matter as 7 of the 10 largest cities lost population from 2000 to 2008. Columbus continues to be the bright spot as far as growth goes for the state.

I don't think this is a surprise...everyone put Cleveland at around that number. The 2010 census will be very important. I still think we'll be a little higher than what they are projecting. Forclosures killed us recently.

But also to put it in perspective:

1960's: -14.3%
1970's: -23.6%
1980's: -11.9%
1990's: -5.4%
2000's: -9.0%???

The 2010 census will curb it a little bit, especially if the city challanges the number if needed. It felt like we were turning the corner in the late 90's...but we're still chugging along I guess. 433,000 is still a lot of people.

This person loves this city and is raising a family here.

I'll be sticking around after I get my degree. People from all over the country will laugh at this--but there's just something magical about Lake Erie that only a Clevelander could understand.

My plan is to head somewhere warm for grad school and come home after I'm done.

Exactly.

Great to see people like yourself who are keeping up the faith.

This decade has killed Cleveland, but many other cities as well. That is being seen currently in once "booming" cities like Miami, Phoenix, and even Charlotte. When you go through two recessions (2001, 2008-2009) it can hurt your economy, and even your local economy worse.

The next decade looks very good for Cleveland though. People just have to have faith, and I know its hard with Cleveland's current political leaders.
