...and does anybody remember the Red Barn restaurant?
And speaking of 90-something year old Dorothy Fuldheim, anyone who watched the WEWS Channel 5 news in the mid '70s will trip out over this link (and even younger folks will still recognize the music and some of the faces)
Yes, we used to take the rapid downtown to see the Higbees Christmas decorations too (and ride the old wooden escalators to eat at the Silver Grille on the top floor). Anyone remember those ancient Shaker/Van Aken rapid cars that were bright yellow and orange?
...and speaking of Randall Mall----did anyone ever go up Miles road from there to shop at Value City?
Yes!!!!!!!!!! but I thought it was at Golden Gate Plaza? Was that a different store? I know they had the Service Merchandise there, and it was nice, then a dump, then kind of nice, then a dump, then the whole Golden Gate closed.

I don't recall if there was a Value City at Golden Gate or not. Maybe in later years, but the Value City I remember was in the late '70s/early '80s and wasn't far from Randall Park Mall. It was kinda schlocky, but you could get some good deals.
I do remember Uncle Bill's at Golden Gate (and even a Fisher's Bigwheel, but that was a LONG time ago---maybe early '70s even, I was really little). But maybe the Uncle Bill's became a Value City later on??
Is Golden Gate really closed? I know the huge Golden Gate sign is gone, but the shopping plaza is still there, isn't it? Most of the stores I remember there have changed (although TGI Friday's is still there I believe).
Hey does anyone remember the Roller Palace roller rink that was in Golden Gate many years ago? ("The next skate is an all-skate" "The next skate is ladies' choice" etc., lol!) Long before rollerblades were invented

I do remember the roller rink. Had some birthday parties there! You are right, Value City was near Randall...schlocky, but yes...great deals (I had to ask my mom b/c I was young) Randall Park became really schlocky too! I went there all the time when I was little prior to Beachwood Place opening up. Always got a Hot Dog on a Stick and some yummy Lemonade. Then, Beachwood opened, and we always went there...it was so nice. Randall just started going WAY downhill after that.
Also, you are right...the shopping center is still there, but the sign is not. I don't think it's called Golden Gate Plaza anymore.
I'll never forget using the term devil-strip for the first time here on the east coast and being looked at like I had three heads. I had no idea it was a local term!
And of course I also got laughed at for using the term "pop" in college.

Ah yes, Sohio. They became BP in Ohio, didn't they? I still have a Sohio coffee cup---my friends here in CA have no idea what that means.
