Default Cleveland Heights, Noble Road

I had a wonderful childhood growing up in Cleveland Heights. I remember riding our bikes up to Noble Road where we kids would go to Franklin Ice Cream store for cones, which were only a nickle. ( yea, I'm dating myself a bit. There was a Washington's Drug Store and Stonebreakers Drug Store. We would buy lemon cokes ( my favorite at the time) at either place. They both had fountain counters back then. Some other places I recall on Noble Road, Swift Dry Cleaners, Fisher's Grocery store, Frank's Deli, Nela Florist and Hough Bakery ( the thought of their coconut bars and custards still makes my mouth water!)
Thinking about it all almost makes me want to plan a trip up north and visit the area as I've not seen it in many many years. I'm sure it's all changed by now.

Franklin's! I remember that place--yum
(these smileys represent me wishing I was licking one of their cherry-chocolate cones...)

Across the street from Franklin's was a savings & loan that had passbook accounts for kids. You could deposit a dollar or two at a time. When you got to your first hundred dollars, Mr. Franklin would give you a free cone.

One great memory that I have of growing up in Mentor-on-the-Lake was being able to ride our bikes to the store (Convenient Mart or Lawson's) or basically wherever we wanted, all the way through the 70's and 80's. We also used to walk or ride up to the lake every day in the summer. I wonder if the kids in Mentor and M-O-L are still able to ride their bikes around like we used to, or have times changed? In metro Atlanta, even in the nice suburb that we live in, I do not let my daughter ride out of sight. There have been too many stories of attempted abductions, etc. It's a shame what has become of our country.

I remember all of this, 90%. I lived on 110th and Woodland area, way back in the 50's! I remember going into a little alley to get fresh bread out of a store the size of a cubical. It was Orlando's bakery! Nobody is probably from that area here lol I loved my life in Cleveland, now in Maryland and I'm always homesick!

EYEBUCK!
WOW!! Didn't Sealtest Dairy also deliver Spang's doughnuts when they
delivered your milk order? I also remember that the milkman used block ice to keep the milk cold. During the summer
we used to ask for pieces of ice to cool ourselves.
My dad used to drink Leisy Beer. Their advertising was "Go Leisy, Go Leisy,
Go Leisy Light!
My family went to a neighbor's wedding and my little sister went out into the aisle of the church and sang their theme song during the ceremony. She was
about 2 or 3. I think that's why I remember it.
And yes! I do remember Laub's bread.
From where I lived we used to stop at Walton Drug store on the way home from school and whenever we wanted a soda. They had a
soda fountain and my favorite drink was a cherry phosphate. Remember phosphates, "real" cherry cokes and pretzel rods.
Remember Num Num Potato Chips and Dan Dee
As a young teen we used to also hang out at Warren Road Shopping Center and went ice skating at Winterhurst

Default Kenny King's

I am Kenny King's nephew.

There was indeed a real Kenny King.

He started a chain of diners in the '50's and bought the rights to use

Col. Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken in Northeastern Ohio for a reported

one million dollars. Kenny died in 1972, and his son Kenny Jr ran the

business for years after. Finally sold them off.

My grandmother once cooked dinner for Col. Sanders. Her claim to fame!

We used to get coupons for free buckets of chicken! LOL!

The old Manners (now Bob's Big Boy) I think. The old Manners had car hops who brought you food to your car. And, how about "Diney's" that was on West 117th and had carhops also and delicious burgers.

I remember and you're aging me. LOL.....I also use to love going to Woolworths downtown and on W. 25th street. Their food at their counter restaurant was sooo good, especially their banana splits. I remember I worked at Green's Dept. Store downtown one summer...would get off the bus around 9 pm and was not the least bit afraid walking down the street to home...yikes, those were the good old days.

Default only a Clevelander

What wonderful memories. I remember a small bakery in Parma that had a drive through! fresh poppy seed bread.....

Someone mentioned Laubs. I remember going to their bakery on a field trip, still remember the BIG mixers.

Does anyone remember the Dairy Dell that was a triangular shaped building?
I still remember the odd shape of the building with was between 2 roads.

Finally, speaking of food, I remember getting fresh pierogi on Fridays from the Ukrainian church.
