Early TV in Cleveland
In the very early 50's on TV in Cleveland I remember seeing two short
cartoons at Christmas time. One was called "Susy Snowflake"
The words went "Here comes Susy Snowflake, dressed in her snow white gown,
Tap, Tap, Tapping on the windowpane, to tell you she's in town".
The other was one of "Jack Frost". I don't remember any of the words from it, but it showed how Jack Frost "painted" the windows in winter.
Does anyone else remember these cute reminders of winter in Cleveland?
Also does anyone remember "Captain Video" ? They also used to play
"A Christmas Carol" (circa 1951) with Alistair Sims and it seemed to play on all the channels that were on the air at that time. I was only 5! at the time and it is the only one I love to watch at Christmas.

Suzy Snowflake
I typed in "Suzy Snowflake" on the MSN search engine
and found this cartoon on Youtube. I think I'll go looking for
the others also, but would still love to here of others who remember
this bit of whimsy.

You're right, there WAS another deli at Cedar Center near Corky & Lenny's It was called Solomon's and it closed in the early '70s. It was replaced by another deli for a few short years called The Rascal House (their logo included little children-like devils with pitchforks). Then that closed in the mid-late 70s and was vacant for several years until that space was taken over by the Pewter Mug restaurant sometime in the very early 1980s. And I think it remained the Pewter Mug in that location at least throughout the mid '90s or so.
And speaking of Richmond Mall, anyone remember Spencer's Gifts there? Or that small 2nd floor balcony in the center of the mall that had a small number of stores there (I think it included a Magic Shop whose name I can't recall, and a Coin Collector's store called Dick Krotz Coins, and Doctor's Pet Shop, and a photo studio---Olan Mills???--and a maternity store.
And the movie theaters towards the back of the mall with all the stylized drawings on the walls of classic movie icons like Charlie Chaplin and John Wayne. And right near the entrance of Sears was a huge plastic frog we used to play on (I think in those days there was some brand name of clothing that Sears sold that used a frog icon and this plastic frog was probably a marketing tool for that----this would have been the early 70s).

How about John Lanigan----both on the radio as Lanigan In the Morning (I forgot what FM station that was---106FM or something?----with another John as his co-host) and then of course he hosted the Prize Movie every weekday on WUAB Channel 43----whenever I stayed home sick from school I'd watch the Prize Movie and during the breaks he'd spin that prize wheel with all the pictures of various TV characters shown on Channel 43----like Dick York as Darrin Stephens from Bewitched or Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster.

Yeah, I remember being home sick as a kid and watching the Prize Movie. I remember how absolutely boring afternoon TV was for a kid in those days, pre-cable TV! All we had to choose from was soap operas on 3, 5, and 8, the Prize Movie on 43 (which was usually a dull movie for grown ups), and channel 25 - Sesame Street, Electric Company, and Zoom did not come on until later in the afternoon from what I remember.

My Cleveland specific memory is from the late 1970's, listening to Pete Franklin rant on 3WE radio (an AM station) in the early evening. He was over the top and ballistic before in came into vogue.

The holidays in Cleveland always included lunch at Halle's where you would get the cardboard oven with your food in it - the original kids meal. Then off the see Mr. Jingaling and Santa. Too cool.
Cleveland also meant Little Toms at Geauga Lake, the restaraunt at the JCPenneys in Richmond Mall, sledding at Manakiki, Euclid Beach, of course,
concerts at Blosson -several a week sometimes -Masters Pizza on Chardon, Friday night dances at St. Joes where you would listen to the Raspberries or Southside Johnny, the Agora, the Red Apple in Willoughby,
Big Boys and onion rings, the drive in on Euclid Avenue, going to McDonalds once or twice a year. Romper Room with Miss Barbara.
Chicago tries to take credit for Suzy Snowflake - one of the furniture stores gave it away last year as a promo.
Miss the simpler life.

You go down the dark road on a dark night with your lights off... of course.

I remember when driving from Euclid to Mentor was something you did for vacation.
Euclid Race ice cream - huge cones after every sports game
Neff Park...
Headlands Beach - if we only knew how good we had it.
