Mr. Hero is still alive and well. We go to the one in Willoughby every time we go back to Ohio and I get a large hot buttered cheesesteak and those waffle fries. I wish I could have one for lunch today!!!

Have you ever tried Papa Joe's? If you're in that part of town, they serve (IMO) a much better hot buttered cheesesteak sandwich, and they have great fries.

Never been there - I'll have to give it a try. Is it a local chain or is there only one?

I believe there are two...one in Wickliffe on Euclid Avenue and one in Eastlake on Vine Street. I have only been to the one in Wickliffe.

Who remembers Franklin's Ice Cream?

Don't know if any of you have been to this website, but it's really fascinating!

The Cleveland Memory Project
There used to be a Franklins Ice Cream at Puritas Plaza on Puritas Rd. and W.140th. My grandmother would take me up there and buy me an ice cream cone.

It's like junkies say about dope. You'll always be chasing the feeling of your first time, and it seems the same can be said for ice cream.

I knew of two on the West Side; One up by Westgate Mall on Center Ridge Rd. and one on W.140th and Lorain. Have no idea of their current status.

If you want a real eye-opener, see what those Mego's go for on eBay. My mom threw out most/all of my childhood toys, but she saved the Star Wars stuff and the baseball cards.
