I remember going to Earth by April when I was a little kid with my family for special celebrations. What a treat that was! I wish there were some good vegetarian restaurants now in my area (Geauga County)

Saw on the news that Dennis Kucinich is trying to get the city to buy several Catholic churches that are closing. Boy, that brought back memories.
I can remember going to quite a few of those churches. My family tried out a bunch--St. Ann's, St. James, and I think there was a St. Philomena or something like that. I liked how ornate those churches were--whenever I got bored there was something new to look at. Especially the polish parishes! They just don't make churches like that anymore. Modern churches are spiritual, I guess, but they're so boring (IMO).
Is this a definite plan, and if it is, what's Cleveland going to do with these buildings? I guess they could be turned into senior centers or maybe offices. I remember St. Ann's was built with marble salvaged from banks that closed in the depression (and it always looked like a bank, as a result). It would be ironic if that building ended up becoming a bank again.

i grew up on E. 114th and miles in the early 60's. i went to miles elementary. in the front of te school was "the sunken garden". all of the kids had a tiny plot where they could grow veggies. it was so cool.
also down the road, miles and 131st was a "pick n pay".
my grandmother and mom shopped there. the guy who ran it at the time had a scam going. he would "plant" an item in womens carts, then accuse them of stealing on the way out! he would tell them that he wouldn't turn them in or call the police if they came back and paid him money. the women back then were so freaked out that they would pay up.
he did it to my grandma, but she told the cops. they gave her money and busted him! ha! tough old woman she was! i've been trying to look thru archives to find the article. it was probably in the cleveland press.
