I would say Cleveland/EC has one of the worst gang problems in the state, if not the worst.

Others that come to mind are Columbus, which has been pretty big with gangs especially bloods and crips since the 90s, possibly earlier. Lorain also (another Cleveland area city) because of the large Hispanic community (Hispanic gangs) and high poverty rate.

I wouldn't trust the news and media when it comes to this as they are very far behind. There was a recent article that's actually posted in this thread (about the Latin Kings). In that article or another one like it they said this is the 1st they've ever heard of the Latin Kings in Cleveland. If you're familiar with the westside of Cleveland, you know the Latin Kings have been here since the 90s. The People and Folks nations have had a presence in Cleveland since the 80s-90s as well, along with the Bloods and Crips but they didn't get big in Cleveland until recently.

I remember the gangs of old such as the Brick City Outlaws (BCO's), The Dynamite Devils, The American A-- Kickers (AAK's), The Royal A-- Kickers (RAK's), The Folks, The Pueto Rican Outlaws just to name a few. The Brick City Outlaws (BCO's) and The Dynamite Devils were two of the largest gangs that I can remember. They were so large that I was told that when a big gang from Detroit came into Cleveland to try to take over, the BCO's and DD's came together to run that gang out of Cleveland. I have not heard anything from these gangs since the Crips and Bloods came to Cleveland. If anyone have a list of all the existing gangs in Cleveland then please post it so I can read it. Thanks

I moved out of Cleveland in the 70's, I grew up on the west side off of 73rd and lawn ave, then we moved out to 120th and Lorain rd. I went to West Tech before they closed it down and replaced it with apartments.

I remember 58th st gang, Halloran park gang was right next to my house - I think we had about 500 members back then. I remember there was a **** load of gangs back then, there was a gang located probably every 20 to 30 blocks apart all over the city; Jefferson park gang was up by 130th.

I also remember getting high a lot and riding around on my 1970 Triumph 650 CC Bonneville motorcycle with a hard-tail, a, with a sportster tank with silver flames, and a custom springer front end. I remember going to the Mad Hatter, the Agora, and the flats, I got into a few fist fights, Ha Ha I lost more than I won.

I remember the big shootout with some crazy asses from the east side and the police, the one that provoked the Hough riots. That night I was at my neighbors house with a few buddies of mine waiting for them to try and come and burn our house down and shoot us, we were ready to fight man. The national guard took care of that. I remember heading up to Woodstock when I was 14, but chickened out and came back home. I remember trying to go to Viet Nam when I was 17 yr old, and my mom telling me she would not sign the paper so could go. Thanks again mom!!!

I don't remember killing people or having to kill people as any part of a membership agreement to be in the gang. And I don't remember sticking a gun in anybody's face and taking their money. I do remember getting high and drinking a heck of a lot, and I do remember riding around in a few stolen cars. I had a few honeys, when I turned 26 I left Cleveland. Now I am retired and plan to go back to see some relatives in the next year or so. I hope when I go back that my wife and I don't get attacked by the gangs by the bloods and the crips (creeps)...

How long ago are you talking?

I remember hearing about the Brick City Outlaws and they're still brought up once in a while but I think they died out for the most part. The other names sound kind of familiar but those sound like they're from the 80s, 70s, possibly earlier than that.

The bigger Cleveland gangs that I hear about more now are mainly Waste-5/10-5, Hough Heights, 3-0 (Dirty 30), and Latin Kings (near westside sets). It's said that there is roughly 100 gangs in Cleveland ranging from say 15 members to several hundred. There's supposedly 5,000(low estimate)-10,000(more accurate) gang members citywide. Some other gangs are: Madison Madhouse, West 73rd, Quarter Boyz, Valley Brick Outlawz, 7-All, Miles Soldiers, Harvard Boyz, Star Boyz, Denison Boyz, Kinsman County Crips, and numerous other crips, bloods, people, and folks gangs and sets around the city.

I found a few links about it:

Default Criminals and training requirements for them

I think if someone makes the choice to take a gun and shoot it into a group of people and kill someone, this is premeditated murder and there should only be one sentence for this crime and that is they should be put to death. Period!

I also think when a child is born and raised with a dog eat dog mentality where selfcenteredness, ego, greed, drugs, & alcohol are the motivators behind there reasoning skills, then this is the product you will get.

My personal opinion is when the younger children are caught by the police doing smaller crimes we should give them the option of doing some serious jail time, or go to a rigid moral training camp. IE (Drug Court for children or something similar) 2 year minimum program.

If they choose not to go to the moral training camp, then put them in a boys home until they are 18 years old and apply one strike towards the 3 strikes your out law.

2nd strike mandatory 15 years, 3rd strike than either life in prison or execution.

Again it is my opinion that by offering them the option of a moral training class this will provide them with the opportunity to know there is a different way to act as a human being.

Because if any of these guys graduated from a moral training class that took about 2 years to get through and then started doing criminal behavior again, and after that ended back up in front of a Judge again they would not be able to use the excuse that they didn't know any better and they are a product of the ghetto.

This way without any doubt a Judge could impose mandatory sentence's with a good conciseness. And we the public could feel good about asking the Judges to impose the mandatory sentence's because we gave it our best effort to help these people change.

In the country I am from, this is called massacre attempt or crime. Once upon a time, people who tried to or committed this crime wouldn't stand a chance to even hang on long enough to trial date. They are done before that.

Good old days.

America's Laws, often, encourage crime and discourage responsibility. It is backward, ignorant, incompetent and stupid.

The thing that nobody is really mentioning is that the "gangs" in Cleveland are very loosely organized. While there is activity -- find me a city in the US with over 150K people where there isn't -- it is mostly opportunistic. There is really no concrete organization like in places like Chicago, and New York. Just keep vigilant and stay away from known hotbeds. It's a jungle out there...always has been.

Cleveland gangs now are less active than they were in the '90s which is when the streets of Cleveland were VERY wild and dangerous and the gangs were as active and gun happy as the ones in Chicago, and New York City, and also the number of gangs now is lower than what they were in the '90s
