So 147 now, last time I checked it was at 135. And that was last week! I read an article on cleveland.com and the last 3-4 murders, all seperate cases, were on the eastside of course. They were between E.55th st and E. 105th St. The last murder was a 16 year old boy.

Hey at least we're not at the 200-300 level like back in the 70's and 80's.
I wonder if there are stats out there listing what murder victims were innocent and which ones were drug/gang related. It would be interesting to know that.

That number from the link may be for the county. I think Cleveland is at 134 or 135.

Sometime in the 1970's Cleveland Had 333 homicides in one year I believe. The population was a bit higher but the per 100,000 average was still significantly high.

The last I checked the murder count in Cleveland was at 132. Its possible that there were two more murders because there was two guys shot in critical condition. I also heard on the Cleveland.com website that the murder count is now at 147 murders. I also have to add that the city of East Cleveland already had 8 or 9 murders and the city only has 27,000 people. The murder count in Cleveland in the 70s reached over 330 murders, but the population of Cleveland in 1970 was around 750,000 and the city was still heavy with the mafia and mob murders, car bombings.

So I guess the official murder count in Cleveland as of today is between 132 and 147, either way were going to pass the 135 murders that we had in 1995.

You guys seem to have lost all sense of reality. In the 70s, Cleveland's population was around 750K. We have a little more than half of that population today. And homicides were at a much higher rate nationwide at that time. Per capita, we are right up there with our homicide of the 70s. People also seem to have a perception that because Philly has the most murders nationwide, that it is the most dangerous. If Cleveland were the size of Philly, our murders would surpass theirs.

That's not true. Cleveland's murder rate is approximately 28 per 100,000. Philadelphia's murder rate is almost identical. In the 70s, the murder rate in Cleveland was around 44 per 100,000.

First of all Philly does not have the most murders in America. There is a couple cities that have more murders than Philly. and 2nd Clevealdn murder rate is closer to 31 if it finishes this year with 136 murders.

Well first off, I'm speaking in terms of homicides. Murder rates would actually be less. And the homicide rate in Cleveland is higher than that. I just read that there were 147 homicides in Cleveland thus far. I'm basing it off that. And yes, our rates NOW are below the 70s, but it's not far off.

Yes, cities have more.. but they are calling Killadelphia this year. The media is jumping on them. And where do you get your statistics? I have read 147 homicidies (cleveland.com). 136 to 147 is a pretty big jump. And Clevelands homicide rate is less than a good share of cities.

I read on Cleveland.com that Cleveland had 147 homicides too. But before I read that I was keeping track of the murders and I only got up to 132 before it said on the site that Cleveland has had 147 murders, probably 150 now. If Cleveland finishes this year with 150 homicides than the homicide rate will be around 34, which is higher than almost every major city. Phillys homicide rate is only around 26 if it finishes this year with 380 homicides, which is still really high for a major city. Philly and Cleveland are both having pretty bad years and bottomline is they both have to find ways to reduce crime in the cities.
