I want to leave Cleveland's public housing asap but I am not financially ready. I am a third year college student and will complete a BA degree in Spring 2010. I have school-age children and the neighborhood is more dangerous for them now that they want to play outside more...let alone all the homicides that have been occuring around the Kinsman/Woodland area...and Cleveland in general. A friend suggested that I apply for public housing in Painesville area. I am willing to go because I am desperate to leave Cleveland (even though it is still public housing). Does anyone have any comments about the Painesville public housing? I understand it is still public housing, but what about the crime rates in relation to Cleveland? Any comments at all will be helpful.

im sure its in no way nearly as rough as the area you currently live in.....you must stay near king kennedy or case court, which is probably some of the worst neighborhoods in cleveland...honeslty painsville should be a cake walk for you...

Isn't public housing on a county by county basis?
If you just want quiet public housing move to Wayne County or something.
I'm not really up on the subject but doesn't already being in public housing rule you out? I thought they put priority on people who "need" it.

Agreed. Painesville might have some areas that are unsafe for Lake County, but crime is pretty much a non-issue.

My thoughts exactly...You are correct, I live in what they refer to as the "old" King Kennedy. I appreciate the comment.

Thanks for the input. The housing authority told me that Lake County residents receive priority first, but that they are accepting applications currently and I can placed on a wait list.

You can get a 500 a month apartment in Stow Ohio a suburb of cleveland. I would rather have be in a one bedroom apartment in Stow with 15 kids then in a Mansion in that area in Cleveland. Ive been to Cleveland a handful of times (I live in Twinsburg) and everytime Ive been asked to empty my pockets, hand over money, or something along those lines. Thats ridiculous. And NEVER NEVER EVER once has it been a white person. MOD CUT
