Default please someone help me - Elyria question

I am moving to the downtown square in elyria and i need to know if this is a safe area or not. The apartment i'm moving into is gorgeous, but i'm worried about this particular area. I currently live in cuyahoga falls, so this will be a dramatic change for me. Thanks for you input.

Moving from Cuyahoga Falls to downtown Elyria will be culture shock for you. In my opinion, this is not a safe area - if you MUST move to Elyria, check out the area nearer the hospital or the "college" streets.

I wouldn't exactly call it safe but it's not that bad. The police keep pretty good watch around downtown and they're looking to put cameras on several downtown corners to keep it safer.

In downtown during the day it's not that bad, but it gets unsafe at night mainly because of all the bars in the area and homeless/drug addicts walking the streets. There's at least 1 brawl every night in a downtown bar, it regularly pours onto the streets, and the drunk people come out and start trouble in the area.

Cuyahoga Falls is much more suburban and safer than Elyria, especially the downtown area. So yes it should be a pretty big change. It gets much worse as you head south of downtown and into the Southside (worst area of Elyria), and also just west of downtown. Up Washington ave near the old library is a pretty nice area. Also east of downtown isn't bad.

I am thinking about moving to Elyria. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the area near Western Heights Park off of West River Road South. I was also wondering if the Riverview Mobile Home Park is still located nearby or what is being done with the area (aerial pictures look like the area has been cleared). Thank you!

That's not the best area. Not terrible but it's still considered "the hood".

I'm not sure where Western Hts park is at, I'm thinking it was the small park on gateway just south of Roosevelt Elementary school. They closed that park and have built new houses on it now. Roosevelt Elementary is also closed (merged with Franklin Elementary, further south).

Riverview homes was closed at least 5-10 years ago. They completely leveled it and are building new, low income houses on the property. The whole southwest side is getting many new, low income homes built up and down W River rd S and just off of it.
