Campgrounds are totally safe. No worries at all there.
What are you in to? If you like camping and nature and all that
I would recommend a trip up to Michigan. If you are into big cities I would say go to Chicago from here.

Yes, Chicago is about a 6 hour drive (-1 due to time zone difference) and Pittsburgh is about 2 hours away. Both are neat cities, relatively close by. If you're into the college town scene, Ann Arbor (U of Mich) is about 2.5 hours away, but I've never been there though I hear it's fun.

I would recommend a trip up to Michigan. If you are into big cities I would say go to Chicago from here.
