moving from SC husband will work in Macedonia 3 kids and a dog
Hi...Well my husband had a decent job offer running a business in Macedonia. We have 3 children 9,8, and 4. We also have a large dog lab mix. This is a big step for us since we have pretty much been in one house in the past 10 years raising our family. My husband is originally from Southern Cal. so he has no experience with the cold or the snow. I have seen many posts where Solon has the best schools but I have also read where the community is real snooty. We are a real laid back down to earth family I want to find something middle of the road nothing too upscale and definatley not the ghetto....any advice with his commute in mind? We will be up there the week of July 4th to look around and at rental properties until we find an area we would like to purchase in. Thanks so much!

You may want to check out Twinsburg. It borders Solon and Macedonia. It has a great school system, diverse community, and a lot of green space (parks, walking trail). Twinsburg was rated as the 5th top city in Northeast Ohio by Cleveland Magazine. It's a very peaceful city with a great library. It's about 10 minutes away from the center of Macedonia and Solon. It's also close to Geauga Lake amusement park, which is in Aurora. I would really check it out!

We are planning to move from Ohio to SC and I think the property values are pretty similar. I agree, Twinsburg is good, and you should also consider Stow. It's a good family community with good schools. Personally, I would stay out of Cuyahoga Co. You will get more for your money in Summit Co.
Ohio in general is not snooty, just good, friendly, down to earth people. Maybe Hudson (between Twinsburg and Stow) is a bit snooty if you try to live there underfunded or under educated.

I grew up in Twinsburg and moved to Hudson after I got married. I have nothing but great things to say about both communities. I read people saying that people in Hudson are snooty and nothing could be further from the truth. I think they get a bad rap because some of them have money. Actually, there are always people moving in and out of Hudson and they are the friendiest people I've ever met!!! My community had parties all the time!!! These people need to try and live in S. Florida and talk about snooty. Anyway, I would recommend Hudson, Chagrin Falls, Aurora or Twinsburg depending on your budget. Solon isn't a very attractive community, but good schools. Hudson and Twinsburg are the closest areas to Macedonia..

I will also throw in my vote for Twinsburg. A good range of housing options, nice amenities, still pretty laid back and fairly diverse for an outer-ring suburb. Good schools and town services.
And, I agree that Hudson really is not a snooty town. The houses are more expensive and there are more wealthy residents there, but for the most part the town has a great community feel and a lot of friendly residents, with plenty of community events, block parties, etc.
Solon is pretty much an average upscale suburban area. Great schools, lots of shopping, etc. For somewhat more affordable housing options within the Solon school district, also look at the small Glenwillow area. Not as much prestige as Solon, and some of the areas aren't as nice, but there are some decent housing options for its small size.
All are an easy commute to Macedonia.

I would look for a house in Macedonia - it's a nice place to live. All the best to you and your family!

Your best bet for the best town would be Hudson. Hudson's a very laid back, very historic New England style town with a good stock of both historic and newer housing. The town zoning board is anti-everything so your home value is well defended from hideous over development (huge problem in Ohio's burbs). Hudson's definitely the best school district in the region, and one of the highest rated in Ohio. The taxes are higher in Hudson, but with 3 kids you're absolutely getting your money's worth.
Solon's a good school district, but it's more of a high pressure "it suburb" and the housing stock is dated 70's-80's. Unless for some reason you just have to live in Solon I would avoid it altogether.
Whatever you decide GET A SNOW BLOWER.

My vote is for Aurora, Twinsburg, Hudson (though a bit more pretentious and less ethnically diverse than other places), and even Hiram (small, really pretty college town, lots of young professors with families, safe community, and tons of good students to babysit when needed).
Macedonia is also a nice place.
