Hello,

We are going to be relocating to NC maybe SC, but more drawn to NC. We were orginally looking in the Raleigh area, but might consider the coast.

We are looking for areas that have good schools, and are family oriented. We love pontoon boating - do not know if that is possible on the coast - because the boat can't handle salt water.

How are property taxes.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Where are you moving from? The schools...if you are moving from up north, the schools do no compete. The property taxes are lower, but other taxes are higher (yearly vehicle tax, sales tax, gas tax).

Carteret County has the lowest property taxes of any county in NC. However, your insurance will eat up some of those savings.

The county schools are very good. We have plenty of pontoon boats both on the White Oak River and in the Intracoastal Waterway.

The Cape Carteret, Emerald Isle area is a great place to live. There are lots of family oriented festivals. The beach areas in the county are sandwiched between the 158,000 acres of the Croatan National Forest and the miles of beaches in the Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Check out my blog about the area and this site which has lots of local interest articles. I also maintain this site which has lots of pictures and information about the area.
