Default Renting a Beach House Accessible Only by 4Wheel Drive

I have been on a Realtor's website which lists vacation homes that are accessible only by a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I believe the homes are in Duck & Corolla.

I would like to know the pros and cons of renting such a place. Can the typical 4 wheel drive sport ute reach one of these rentals?

My guess is that the rentals are in Carvoa which is north of Corolla.

I know someone who is attending a wedding there next week. One of his friends went up to check the beach out and got his 4 Runner stuck twice.

Several years ago we drove our AWD Previa on the same beach but I have heard that it has changed.

I have a friend who rented there a couple years ago, so I will send him a note. I know all they had was a Honda Pilot.

So at this point, I don't have a good answer for you but I will get one.

Sounds like fun if you have the four wheel drive vehicle. The four wheels are needed because you will be driving in the sand. Sand is very hard for a regular vehicle to drive on. I understand that it is possible to drive all the way up the outer banks to Virginia. I have never done it, but I would love to and absolutely love that area. I don't think this area is for the faint of heart though.

You might want to see the movie, Night in Rodante. This area is South of where you are going, but the movie gives a good indication of what it would be like to be so isolated.

BTW we drove a Buick LeSabre to the end of the road in Corolla and saw the wild horses. Love, love, love that area. The million dollar houses are not bad either. We stayed in Duck at a timeshare. It rains sideways there.

Pros are it is isolated and usually a good time and it is unique.
Cons are it is isolated. If you don't know how to drive in sand (there is a proper way), going on a vacation ISN'T the time to learn.
