It looks like my husband's new assignment is Camp Lejeune.

I know nothing of the area and really need your help.

We have two kids - 6 and 4 so a good elementary school is a must. Some great family oriented neighborhoods withing 30 minutes from my husband's work, too.

Most likely my husband's assignment is for a year only. Where we are right now we have a house, excellent school, friend etc. So it would make sense just to go ahead and stay. But an idea of separation for a year is unbearable.

Please give me some suggestions which areas around Camp Lejeune I should look at. I am sure when I see that this is a great place for a family to live I will feel less panicky and will be happy to relocate ))

Thank you for your input!

Here is my response from a previous thread about a month back.
Hunter's creek would be a good family neighborhood. Your kids would attend Hunter's Creek Elementary.

The best elementary school in Jacksonville is Parkwood. I don't know specifically what neighborhoods feed that school

Smile If you want to be closer to the beach and have great schools

I know there are some rentals in the Cape Carteret area. I see them I drive clients around showing homes.

The homes would be 10-15 miles from the back gate. There is even one long term rental in our neighborhood. We have a number of military people in our subdivision and some civilians working at Lejeune.

From what I have heard from parents (our children were grown before we moved here) Carteret County schools are very good.

Our area is very safe, kid friendly, and a great place to live even for just a year.

The elementary school for the area would be White Oak Elementary. Direct message me if you need more specific information.

We are less than ten minutes from the Emerald Isle Beaches. Services like grocery stores etc are only seven or eight minutes away, and the traffic in the area is much less than Jacksonville.

The only Target in the area is in Jacksonville, so if that is important, Jacksonville would be your spot.

Best school district in Onslow County around Camp Lejeune is either Swansboro Schools or the Richlands school district...I have heard great things about both, and I know the School Report Cards for Swansboro are good...
