I will be in North Carolina next summer for 2-3 weeks with my husband and two boys, they will be 3 and 6 then. Well be visiting my husbands parents, weve never been there before. Im wondering, what should be do when were in NC for fun? His parents have only been there since the spring, they live in Wilmington. Thanks.

Also, it doesnt have to be IN Wilmington, like an hour or two away would be fine.

So far the only thing Ive seen is the North Carolina Battleship. Is that worth going to? How is it? etc. Any other things to do?

There are several museums and historic houses in the area, although this isn't probably the best idea for kids so young. There is a children's museum and serpent house downtown though, and the battleship is kinda cool to see.

The aquarium down at Kure Beach would be a cool thing to do, as well as Ft. Fisher. You can also take the Ferry from southport across to Bald Head Island to go up the lighthouse there, although the ferry ride and need to rent bikes/golf carts on the island make it rather expensive. Carolina beach's boardwalk would also be fun (check out Britt's donuts!!) and they have fireworks most weekends as well as a carnival.

Hopefully that gives you a bit of a starting point!

The children's museum is really cool! And then there's the aquarium at Ft. Fisher. And yes, they'd love the Battleship (and they might even see an alligator or two while you're there! ).

There's another aquarium at Pine Knolls Shore (about a 1 1/2 hour drive), but it's very different from Ft. Fisher.

And if it's warm enough, you can spend the day at Jungle Rapids in Wilmington.

For an hour's drive, you can be at Myrtle Beach and there's LOTS to do there!!

Oh Yes take a drive south down to Myrtle beach, so much to do with kids in that area
(Google Myrtle beach to look through all of the activities to do throughout that area)
Sunset beach is on the way South to Myrtle beach, there's a planetarium located there with childrens shows and activities, it's a very nice place and reasonably priced.
Sea Screamer Dolphin tours is also on the way south to Myrtle and located right outside at Little river, along with other boat rides ect....

The beach is a freebie and Wrightsville beach is beautiful and located right in Wilmington.
Also someone else pointed out, The Battleship NC is a Huge tourist attraction located in Wilmington., kids at the ages of yours would either be discounted or possibly free admisiion.

Since you have plenty of time before your trip and you'll have plenty of time to visit, I'd start searching online now!

Goodluck and have fun!
