Dear Benny and the Jets,
I can't tell you about those apartments, but I can tell you a tiny bit of old history about myself and Shallotte. But first, "Benny and the Jets" as your user name really got to me. I'm 60 and I remember when my best friend and I and her boyfriend lived together when we went to East Carolina University in Greenville NC in about 1974. Her and I must have played that Elton John album every day, we loved "Ba-ba-ba-Benny and the Jets" SO much, and I still enjoy hearing it when it comes on the radio.

Around five years later, I had an opportunity to work on the newspaper in Shallotte, and when the editor and I talked about my living arrangements, he said I could rent a place on the beach and cover whatever was going on down there (I am a writer). I was thrilled to think I could live on the water like that, just never dreamed he would WANT me to do that. I didn't get the job, but I just wanted to tell you if you can get on the beach, that would be a good choice.

Nice to see that user name, really brought it all back to me. Sooo cool.
GG

Before I purchased in SPT I rented @ Birch Pond, that was 6 years ago.
I found it fine then for temp. housing, don't know what it is like now.
Personally I found Shallotte to be pretty boring, some good restaurants, but would never want to settle there. There are so many good deals out there right now, so it all depends on your priorities. And yes, I hear you about NJ, your taxes and living expenses will be lower here. Good Luck
