that's a hard one to answer - i've lived in both - carolina beach (wilmington) nc and sarasota fl. i find both virginia and nc coasts terribly humid - right on the water works but i mean right on the water/sitting on the beach. by contrast, the four/five summers i spent living in sarasota were actually less humid than the further north coasts. the air seemed to move more/while the sun was terribly intense , as the day ended /early evening seemed bearable.
that's just my take on it and i'm native to virginia so no lack of experience in northern virginia, richmond city, tidewater etc summers. what i do love about virginia and nc is that you get seasons which you don't get in florida, in my estimation. (sorry florida guys - there is something about real seasonal changes that are just not in sarasota area) - but as i freeze just now in virginia, i'm really thinking about how important those seasonal changes are. maybe i'll just put a snowy picture on my lap top. lol........
best to you in your search - nc and va both seem to have been smacked with rough winters and summers this past year, with this winter looking a little nasty so far. i'm not sure if this is all just a fluke but i would have been thrilled to have been in florida and not here in virginia this past horrid, humid, blazing hot summer
