I think I am pregnant, and while I do have basic health coverage through BCBS, I do not have maternity coverage and I am not able to apply for it at this time. I think I qualify for medicaid due to my low income, but am wondering if the BCBS coverage I have will disqualify me. I do not pay for my current coverage, my parents do, though they have told me they cannot pay any more after this year. Will having basic medical coverage exclude me from medicaid even though I qualify in all other areas?

If you qualify for low income assistance and have a minor child you should still qualify for medicaid. See your local office for details.

Thanks, I do have a minor child, as well as another that my husband and I pay child support for. We are in some pretty hard times, but the future is looking better. Hopefully if I can get on medicaid for this pregnancy, that will allow us to keep our heads above water!!

im not sure of the criteria, but i would say yes, you can. drop in the social services office and talk to the medicaid person - make sure you take ID, SS cards, paystubs and your current insurance card and all...
