Hi,
I am looking for a nice town to take a roadtrip to from NJ in June. I'd be going with my mother. We are looking for a nice town, possibly near the beach that has bike riding, lots of cute shops/cafes, a nice town square...very charming and quaint with lots of culture. What town might fit the bill? Any true golf cart towns btw? Those always seemed cute..

Thanks!

From what you said, Beaufort NC just might fit the bill--it's as cute as a bug's ear:

Vibrant Village

Bald Head Island comes to mind. Golf carts and bicycles (or walking) is the only way to get around the island. Very charming, great beaches, expensive. Not much shopping.

Southport, NC has bed and breakfasts, lots of fun shops, a gorgeous waterfront designed for gathering, sitting, walking, restaurants, history, and an art museum. And a million other things to recommend it. I think you would have a wonderful time.

Funny. I live 10 minutes from Beaufort but Southport was the town that first came to mind!! Both are great choices.

Beaufort, Swansboro, Southport...all nice. Beaufort and Swansboro are pretty close to each other...Southport is further south down towards Wilmington. All three would be good for you to visit.

The only TRUE golf cart community is Bald Head Island. Southport and BHI are neighbors connected by an $18(I believe) ferry ride.
