crime/meth in oak island?

Hi all,
I will be moving to the Southport area this summer. I have a couple questions for the locals!
1. Where is the best place to raise a family? I have 2 kids ages 7 and 9. We thought about Winding River b/c we have a boat but it I am concerned it is not "kid friendly" enough. I want to be in a place where there are many families.
2. Are there any high school teachers out there? More specifically, special education teachers?

and what I've been reading here is discouraging. I have 3 kids under 7. So far I've learned the schools aren't great and the high school is pretty bad. Oh how sad. I see there's a relatively new Montessori that goes to 6th grade. How feasible is a drive to Wilimington for school????

Hello, I am thinking of moving to Oak island. I have two children 8 & 4. Is Oak island in need child care. I currently run a small high quality preschool in the lower portion of my home & would plan to do the same in Oak island. How are the public school in the area? Any areas to avoid in looking for a home? It sounds like a small family freindly place... thanks
