I just don't understand all the haters. Greenville seems like a pretty good burg to me. The have adequate retail, not far from Raleigh. I don't get why it is supposedly so bad.

People moving from points north aren't used to having no buffer zone between their little enclaves and the local color/poverty.

That is a very astute comment. One of the first remarks aI make about New Bern is, if you live in one of the historic districts, you will be within 500 meters of some pretty violent crimes, but that is life in a small southern town.

Same here in downtown Wilmington. Some of our most expensive real estate in on the river front which is just a few blocks from where you can readily purchase crack on a street corner. Greenville isn't my first choice for residence in NC but having grown up in Fayetteville I can certainly say that I'd take Greenville over Fayettenam any day of the week.

Of note, NC has no cities in the top 100, SC has 6 or 7.

True...but, I DO MISS my buffer zone. Neighborhoods made sense up north...they are too blended here.

Sorry... I don't catch the reference, Mr. Bojangles.

But, my point is when I lived up North and in Florida I could find miles of roads to run/bike on that stayed in safer neighborhoods. But, when I moved here, the routes I mapped out all over Greenville kept running between good and bad streets, neighborhoods, etc.

For example, you have the A O Pi house downtown surrounded by unsafe streets all around. You start running on 5th Street and Greek houses abut run down apartment complexes...

...that is my point...
