well, we live out s.college and would love to get something on this side to avoid driving
to Mayfaire , do not enjoy that drive at all.
it does sounds very promising and to tell
you the truth both Whole foods and Trader Joe's
would be smart to put their stores closer to downtown and the south side of town.
a whole lot of neighborhoods on that side , Mayfaire already has The Fresh market and HT .

the oleander/college rd area is ripe for something along those lines and downtown has no
real food market.

as an aside I would love a good healthfood store on this side of town.

I live in Carolina Beach and taking the backway over a coupla 'loop' roads I get to Mayfaire in ~25 minutes without much aggravating traffic. Wherever they locate I'll welcome Trader Joes with open arms, of course they could always come to the beach

That would be my dream actually.............TJ and Publix are two of my most favorite stores anywhere and since we left GA nothing here grocery store wise in ILM can compete............HT and the Fresh Market just don't compare........although (not to squash hopes) I heard Publix wouldn't open stores in NC but I don't remember the reason why............

But I would be beyond elated if we got a TJ and a Whole Foods............Publix would just be icing on the cake!

However we have come to love the farmer's markets and the CSA's that are all around this area - they are fantastic! They definitely fill a void for us in the current grocery shopping environment that seems to be lacking here......

where will that publix be located?

i also wonder what happened that made publix , trader joe's, and whole foods all show up at the same time. has the cost for wilmington retail space fallen?

I'd guess a combination of space available at good prices and population growth, Harris-Teeter has plans for a store in Carolina Beach as well.
