Default New Bern is a Wonderful Town

I was born and raised in New Bern. Sounds like we are about the same age range. I left for 20 years and returned to be closer to my family. I particularly love the rivers and being close to the beach. Today is in the 40's, but the weekend is suppose to be in the 70's. We've had an unusual winter and you have in New Jersey too. The winters are short and mild.

New Bern has a local theater and you can look at the links on my site for other events that take place. As other communities lost their downtowns in the 70's to malls, New Bern did also. Now the downtown is thriving and growing every day. Talbots is building a store this year and Joseph Banks is expected to open a store too. My husband and I own a little cafe' and deli downtown too.

We still have our hokey Christmas parades and I know we will maintain our historic culture even with rapid growth.

Martha

Here's some existing threads that may be of help:

New Bern, NC
Family of 4 moving from California to New Bern needing info
Possible relocation to New Bern
New Bern Crime
Downtown New Bern
Fairfield Harbour / River Bend
Glenburnie Park Area in New Bern, NC

The combined county/city property tax rate in New Bern is $0.9994 per $100 of value (or essentially, 1%).

Summers are very hot and humid, winters fairly mild and short.

bc1960 - would you say it's more hot and humid than Florida as a comparison? Thank you.

I'd say the difference is that in New Bern, the really uncomfortable time is June-August, versus May-September in most of Florida.
