I live in Ohio and am thinking of moving to coastal NC. I have been to Sunset Beach many times over the years. I know that area but I am looking for a town within 40 miles of the coast. I am looking for a small town with a town square or a small downtown area, that is safe. Where there is shopping, restaurants and is clean and tidy and has a fair amount of retired people, as I am 66 years old, I would like a house that is unusual or a well kept older character house, something that looks British or European. Anybody know of a town like this? Thanks!

I don't know if you want to be on the coast or not. Beaufort has some lovely old homes. Swansboro is not as fancy but still very nice.

Here's my travel guide for Beaufort (http://coastalnc.org/beaufortnctravelguide - broken link) and another for Swansboro.

Here are some pictures of Beaufort and lots of area pictures.

I have also heard that Edenton is very nice. Here's a Google map with Edenton.

If I can answer questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
