Seeing that many inlanders visit the you. How many of you visit us? Why?
I will confess that I run away from the coast to a location inland (that I will never reveal on here ) almost every weekend during the summer. I just can't take the tourist weekend crowd at the beach so I have learned to conceed the summer months to the non-locals. I visit my folks in Fayetteville for all the major holidays, a city that I grew up in and absolutely hate by the way. Worst city in NC in my opinion. I love Raleigh and Charlotte though. So much to do in both cities. I'm a race fan so Charlotte as well as Darlington, SC are frequent "inland" destinations for me. Wilmington is great but our sports scene is pathetic. The university doesn't even have a football team.
I live in the Triangle area now, but grew up on the coast and thats where the parents and in-laws are. Growing up Raleigh was the destination for concerts and the "real mall" at Crabtree. As a young adult often drove up to DC on the weekends or in to Greenville to party. Myrtle Beach was another popular destination, though not inland.
One year early on in my marriage while still living by the coast the wife and I celebrated our annviersary in Raleigh. Got a room downtown and just enjoyed the day at City Market and the rest of downtown.
Yep, our vacations have included inland places in North Carolina: W/S, Hillsborough, Durham, Hendersonville, Franklin, Asheville, Marion, Robbinsville, and others. I love the higher elevations as well as the coastal areas. We're fortunate to live in a state that's so diverse.
We go to Dobson to Sheltons Vineyards, love the Sheltons Hampton Inn, go to Greenville,SC ever few years to the BMW plant and participate in track driving activities. Do many things that involves 02s in the western part of the state.
