Wilmington is a great town, but downtown is "iffy" unless you know the area. There are some really nice places in New Hanover County such as the Castle Hayne area (about 4 miles from the Wilmington city limits) more country set with nice homes at a lower price. There are several houses in that area on cul-de-sacs that would give you privacy, large yards and yet the comfortable distance from town. Great schools as well. Brunswick County is nice and so is Pender County, but again, find a realtor you can trust. Distance and gas prices are always a consideration. Good luck and welcome to Wilmington
