The East Coast population of loggerhead sea turtles will retain its current status as “threatened” under federal changes to improve conservation efforts for the sea turtles.
NOAA and the US. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced a final rule that changes the listing of loggerhead sea turtles under the Endangered Species Act from a single threatened species to nine different population groups listed as either threatened or endangered.
Five groups were listed as endangered and four as threatened.
