The state Department of Transportation says N.C. 12 will reopen on Hatteras Island by Tuesday, more than six weeks after Hurricane Irene washed out sections of the road. Contractors are building a 662-foot-long steel truss bridge across one gap, and crews are repaving other parts of the road.

Sure. The state has not figured out what a final solution is. But that is the NCDOT. To be honest I think it is the quickest they have ever completed a project. Been looking for the how long it will last pool. I have two years for $10.
