Me and my family are PCSing from CA to Cherry Point NC in about a month and we considering moving on base. Just waned to know if anyone has stayed on base or is staying on base can give me some advice if it would be worth getting on the waiting list. We stay on base right now and we love it. My kids have lots of friends and plus these are newer houses that we live in. I would appreciate the advice. Thanks in advance

All of the base housing you can see from out in town is new. Slocum housing that is. The other off base-on base housing areas of Hancock and Fort Macon were tore down and not rebuilt. Staff Cape Hart were gettimg new housing as well, but I havee not seen it with mine own eyes. The city of Havelock is not very big and is structured around the youth so wether you want to live off or on base is a matter of preference and is irrekevant to QOL over all.Arthur Edwards and Havelock Elementary, as well as Tucker Creek Middle School have a year round school schedule. Arthur Edwards includes kids that live in Staff Cape Hart. Kids in Havelock can choose to go traditional or year round but must provide transportation if the school is out of their zone

Sorry I can't help answer the question, but I have a question of my own--what is "PCSing"? (I'm obviously not a military guy.)

Moving, basically. PCS stands for Permanent Change of Station but is often used as a verb as in the above.

Oh good, that's a relief. I thought perhaps it might be the military version of PMSing.
