daintylul - I had good friends who ended up in a city that they hated and one day they asked themselves almost the same question you did, "Do I want to be homeless here? Or in a place we love to live?" So they packed up and moved and found jobs when they arrived. That said, they had savings, both had advanced degrees and it was before the economy tanked, so it didn't take them too long to find gainful employment...Not everyone has the guts to make that kind of decision.

Here are my suggestions. Don't look for advice on these forums. Google Asheville relocation, Wilmington relocation, etc. and take a look at the average weather and average rents. Call a real estate agent who specializes in relocation--many of them will work with renters. Google temporary agencies or go to Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed.com and search for keywords for the types of jobs you want in that city to get an idea of what is available and what the average pay is. Go to a temporary agency or a community college in your current area and ask them to review your resume to see what help they can give you to spiff it up before you start job hunting in your new area.

Do your own research, make the right preparations, pray about it and do what is right for you.

As to answering your questions as to weather I will say that coastal North Carolina is in a different agricultural zone than the Triangle (Piedmont) or Asheville (mountain) areas, so the average temps are more mild here.

Let's see if I can explain this a little better. Have you ever lived up north in Canada, or somewhere that it snows really bad. Have you ever left? Well I live in 6 months of summer heat and humidity. I won't be here for one more inferno...

Yes, and I am aware of the truth. Thank you for your truths.

Hi Dainty: Can you live with your friends for a short while until you find a place and look for a job? Don't know if you can get unemployment in a different state until you have worked there. Anyway, your mindset is what's important. Sure its nice to have a job before going there, but not always possible. And sometimes a new area can give you the incentive to find a different line of work that you had not considered previously. What can be worse than what you already are in ? I say GO FOR IT !

Why does everyone assume she can't move without a job? What if she has has 1 to 2 years rent saved up? its quite presumptuous to assume to know her financials and quite frankly no ones business. Why can't anyone just answer the questions she is actually asking for your opinion on? Personally I have been unemployed but had a very large savings so its possible. Just a thought....

Because what happens when that rent money is gone and there's still no job? It just isn't wise to move here or anywhere without some kind of job offer.
