I'm vitally interested in receiving information as to the whereabouts of the homestead of Capt. David Williams, Co. K, 3rd North Carolina State Troops, CSA. He is prominently mentioned in the History of Pinder County, N.C., and was known to have lived in the Bannerman's Community, which I believe is now known as "Bannerman's Vineyard." Capt. Williams was my great, great, great grandfather. He was killed at the Battle of Antietam in September 1862. I was in Burgaw on Sunday, Aug. 26, and drove through Bannerman's Vineyard looking for an historical marker. I even stopped at a private home and inquired about this historical figure. The man I talked with said he had never heard of Capt. Williams, CSA, who formed Co. K at Bannerman's and left Burgaw for Richmond, Va., in 1861 for the Seven Days Campaign. Please e-mail me at jack.williams@wjhnews.com if you have information about this 19th century Confederate.
