My family and I have vacationed at both Kill Devil Hills and Corolla and while we liked both places we are looking for something a little quieter. I' ve been looking at Emerald Isle/Salter Path area and I have some ?s

How much further is the drive (we're in Pittsburgh)?

Just my wife, 10 yr old son, and me this time so we are looking at condos
found a few condo complexes are there any you would reccomend?

what is the beach condition there?, wide/narrow, rough surf, crowds, etc.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - It's about 75 miles or 1 hour further to Emerald Isle from Pittsburgh.

Here's a surf report: http://www.eilivesurf.com/surfreports.asp?page=&id=3233 Waves looks gentle. I think it's sandy. Nowhere is rocky on the NC coast.

Navigating around Eastern NC is anything but "as the crow flies." Check out an online routing program, will be your best bet

steelernati0n: I have a suggestion for you to check out. Check out condo rentals at Windward Dunes at Highway marker 10, Salter Path. Very nice units; 2 bedrooms will be just right for you & your family. Very family friendly. Mod Cut DM real estate recommendations please. We have been staying there for several years and love it. We drive from northeast ohio. Hope this helps. BTW, I was born in The Burgh!

Have you thought about Hatteras Island (Towns of Waves, Avon, Frisco, Roadthe, Hatteras, Buxto), or Ocracoke? Both are south of KDH. Ocracoke you have to take a 20 minute ferry fron Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. There is a British cemetery in Ocracoke. The town of Hatteras is about an hour south of KDH/Nags Head. I know several people that like that area becasue it is quieter then the KDH/Nags Head/Kitty Hawk area.

I just heard someone singing the praises of Emerald Isle, so we will be checking it out as soon as summer returns! White, sandy beaches and no crowds. Very lovely town, and middle to upper-middle class restaurants & shops.
