I have fallen in love with North Carolina Coast, it is soooooo gorgeous. I am about to retire and have decided to make NC my home. I have narrowed it down to Brunswick County or downtown Wilmington. I have also been doing my research as far as the closes hospitals, cost of living, school districts etc. The more I find out the more I say its too good to be true. I am coming to Wilmington alone. No husband, happily divorced . I just want to know is there a lot of volunteer jobs in Brunswick County always wanted to give back but never had the time. Now all I have is time. Any suggestions? Thanks

A relative who lives in Magnolia Greens says people should get involved with their homeowner's association, at least to know how the money is spent.

In Onslow and Pender Counties, the local weekly papers publish volunteer opportunities, and probably Brunswick and New Hanover do the same. Things range from cleaning up the highways, to running the resale store at the library. There are probably tutoring, foster grandparenting, blood-mobile support and supporting historic sites like Brunswicktown. Depending on your skills and interests, I'm sure you will find something to do.

You would probably have more people read/respond to your post if your thread title spelled out "Wanting to volunteer in Wilmington" (etc) instead of "Only Me" which many might not be inclined to click on and read. If you end up moving and later post a similar thread, just remember that the more detailed the subject, the more likely to get people interested in answering what you're asking

Congratulations both on your retirement and in my opinion picking a great place to spend it!

If volunteering is what you want then St. James should be your destination. Volunteering is a way of life here. Many things get done here by volunteers that would normally cost the POA (and by extension the property owners) money. Brunswick county is a very poor county and so many services would not be available if not for the many volunteers who do them for free.

oo you want to live in an urban area or a smaller area.

Brunswick county is a large county.

The Shalotte are has plenty of volunteer organizations which would be very happy to take you in.
