Hi Everyone: Short visit, loved your town and congrats on being named a top "coolest town". Thinking of moving there from up north and had two questions: (1) is there much of a criminal element there? Small towns are usually quite safe but one never knows. (2) Is the population pretty accepting of newcomers and how about a gay male couple . Thaks for your feed back, it is appreciated.

innkeeper2B,
My mother lives in Beaufort and I live across the big bridge from Beaufort in Morehead City. I came down here 30 years ago for a weeks visit and never left.
All towns and cities have certain areas that are less safe than others and have a "criminal element" running about. With that said Beaufort (and surrounding towns) are about as safe and friendly as you can find anywhere.
You'll also find that the folks around here are loving people. Don't care too much if you're white, black, tall, short, gay, straight, Jew or Gentile-Whatever!
In my opinion the one sore spot is this. Because folks are loving and laid back by nature sometimes folks try to take advantage of it. But a loving and kind heart will almost always be reciprocated in kind if not multiplied by the indigenous personnel.

In many southern towns and small cities, good and bad neighborhoods exist very close together. It is how life has evolved in the south. Just pay attention an don't do stupid things, and you will be alright!

Uh, yeah...I agree. A "teacher" should at the very least know when to use punctuation. And, her grammar sucks.
